Laverne is 84 years of
age. A kind person who knows no stranger, Laverne lives life to
its fullest with her great sense of humor. She is a loving
grandmother who was called to be the “mother” for three homeless
grandchildren after the tragic loss of her son and
daughter-in-law.
Laverne also cared for her loving husband through his
extended illness. Prior to his death, she was given the
following instructions, “Cookie, buy you a new car, watch your
money, and have fun!”
Heeding his last instructions to her, Laverne is an active
member of the Presbyterian Church for the mission of women in
her community and is a Senior Olympic Athlete in Air Gun,
Bowling, Dance, Horseshoes, Shuffleboard, Swimming and Table
Tennis. She participates all these activities in spite of having
triple bypass surgery in 2005.
Laverne is nominated by Larry Bomberger, San Juan County
Senior Advisory Board for her tremendous contributions to the
San Juan County Senior Community as both a competitor and
volunteer. She serves as vice president for Northwest New Mexico
Seniors, Inc. and recruits others with her fun-loving and
vibrant attitude. |
