State Games Update

Evaluation Highlights

Congratulation to Ginger Rich of Albuquerque, Winner of the Evaluation Drawing.  Ginger is now the Proud owner of "One of Everything," one of each of our NMSO Souvenirs from the 2002 State Games.

We want to make a special thank you to all those who took the time to indicate their ethnicity on the State Game Registration Forms. This is something the State Agency always asks us for. There were about 8% who indicated "other", but from what we could tell the breakdown looked like this:

• 1% African American
• 8% American Indian
• 1% Asian
• 58% Caucasian
• 24% Hispanic

You were able to tell us a great deal in your evaluations. Here are some highlights:

• 22% were first-time Athletes
• 46% stayed in Las Cruces for 4–5 days
• 66% participated in more than one sport
• 86% went to the sport tables to check for details and information!
• 54% rated the games "Excellent"
• 30% rated the games "Good"
• 9% felt there was opportunity for improvement.

We love it when you say everything was wonderful, (of course) but we pay special attention when you have a problem. We want to thank you for not only expressing a frustrations, but many of you also offered solutions.  We always feel there is room for improvement. We are not always sure where that should be.

Some of the things we are working on will be:

• Schedule issues. We will try to get the schedule out sooner.
• An extended meal card to go with early arrival adding three meals.
• We have several ideas on how to cut down on no-shows.

We had 178 Seniors compete in the first annual Games in 1978, in 2002 we had 1682. We are still trying to fit all this into a 4-day schedule. We conduct 26 different sports with 196 events. Many of you have asked that we extend the Games, or separate team sports from other events. We would like to hear from you. Write, call, or e-mail us with your ideas.
