...and the Nominees for
W e received 8 nominations for Golden Athlete of the Year for 2002. Some of theses athletes were nominated by more than one individual and many came with well over the minimum letters of support. There were three men and five women nominated prior to the deadline. David Hsi (pronounced "she") and Larry Johnson of Albuquerque, and Adan Quintana of Las Vegas. All these gentlemen are praised by their nominators as community-minded, long time volunteers that give freely of their time and efforts in supporting local Senior Olympics and being great examples to those around them. The ladies nominated are Shelia McKnight of Roswell, Betty Piatt and Ina Stewart of Albuquerque, Ramona Trujillo of Belen, and Ona Whitehead of Grants. Each of these special ladies came highly recommended for her team spirit and the energy and enthusiasm they freely share with those around them.It was a wonderful experience to read about each one of them. Every nominee is already a winner in their own right and have won the love and respect of their friends and community. It will be a very difficult decision for the panel of judges. The judging is based on four criteria: Personal Accomplishments, Professional Contributions, Community Contributions, and Contributions to Fellow Seniors. When a nomination is written each area is addressed by the person or persons submitting the nomination. A panel of judges is made up of members of the NMSO Board of Directors. Only those who do not live in the communities where these nominees reside may be appointed to the panel. Though a person can only win the title of Golden Athlete of the Year one time, you can nominate your favorite athlete as often as you wish. Who will you nominate for Golden Athlete of 2003? Everyone knows someone who deserves to be recognized. We did receive some nominations after the deadline and we respectfully ask you to please, nominate them again for 2003! You can obtain nomination forms from your local coordinator. Next Time —
