I f you didn’t make it to a Trek event this year, don’t miss out on your next opportunity. Here are some of the many things you have to look forward to if you missed your chance this Spring.On Tuesday, March 18, the Genoveva Community Center in Santa Fe filled up with 161 seniors. They enjoyed the new facility and took part in 14 different workshops. In Raton, NM, on April 24th, NMSO was able to partner with their Twelfth Annual Health Fair. Mandy Owens shared information about Senior Olympics with over 70 seniors.Currently, Seniors from this area attend Colfax Co., Clovis, or Tucumcari for Local Senior Games. The Fair hosted over 1000 participants. The Albuquerque Trek was Tuesday, April 29th. It was held in a new facility also, the Mesa Manzano Intergenerational Activity Center. 106 Seniors from all over Northern New Mexico had a chance to choose from 13 workshops. The NMSO Trek held in Clovis New Mexico on May 13 was another success. Over 96 participants attended the Trek event held at the Clovis Community College. Seniors from Clovis, Portales and the surrounding areas enjoyed 12 educational and fun activities. Workshops Included: Swimming instruction and water aerobics, Managing Diabetes and Arthritis with exercise, Creating the Fitness Habit, Sport Demonstrations, Using exercise equipment, Spinal health Tai Chi, Yoga, Latin Dance, Fundamentals of Medicare, and the NMSO Business Meeting. Audiologists, Chiropractors, Registered Nurses, Physical Therapists, Physicians and Health Care Professionals give their time and talents to make these events excellent. The purpose of the Senior Trek to Healthy Fitness is to encourage seniors to try new things and become more aware of their health and how they can maintain and improve it.
