NMSO welcomes five new VISTAs

We are excited to announce the addition of five new VISTA Health Promotion Advocates!

Virginia Mora-DeLazo and Angela Gonzales-Carver will be working with health and fitness professionals in the Albuquerque area. Carlos “Charlie” Landovazo will be mobilizing health and fitness professionals in the McKinley County area. The Eastern part of New Mexico will have Rachel Gutierrez of Curry County and Cindy Montano of Roosevelt County, advocating for senior health and fitness.

Virginia’s experience includes serving as Assistant Activities Director at the Albuquerque Care Center where she assisted in the direction of long-term care residents’ weekend recreation activities. She worked with the City of Albuquerque visiting senior programs and soliciting the seniors’ input about their fitness interests.

Angela has supervised a program called “Senior Projects.” This inter-generational program has young teens go to senior citizen’s homes and help them with everyday house work they can not do on their own. Angela is enthusiastic about her VISTA opportunity because she feels that seniors have so much to contribute to society.

Carlos is no stranger to working with seniors, having run a Senior fund raiser and raffle to raise money for Toys for Tots and the Senior Center. He also helped with the local “Old Timers Breakfast,” ran the Gallup Recreation Center Cake Walk at the Halloween Bash, and assisted in the “All Senior Pueblo Game Day” at the Senior Trek to Healthy Fitness Event in Gallup.

Rachel is experienced in assisting the low income community having worked with the Eastern Plains Community Action Agency dispencing commodities and assisting with filling out income tax forms for low income families. She also assisted with event set up for Clovis local Senior Olympics.

Cindy has volunteered at Los Abulitos Senior Center in Portales for six months prior to coming on board as a VISTA. She has assisted the Director with the various social and fun activities as well as the Local Senior Olympic Games. She looks forward to traveling throughout Roosevelt County recruiting senior athletes and strengthening the Local Senior Olympic program.
