2005 Annual Summer State Games

The City of Albuquerque will host the New Mexico Senior Olympic Annual Summer State Games August 3 –7, 2005. The Albuquerque Department of Senior Affairs has taken this project under their wing. Albuquerque is celebrating its Tri-Centennial Celebration and festivities will include lots of special fun things to do. Mayor Martin Chaves and Blanca Hise, Director of the Department of Senior Affairs, are very excited about incorporating the 2005 Annual Summer State Games into the calendar of events.

What’s New in 2005?

The 2005 New Mexico Senior Olympic Annual Summer State Games are shaping up to be the best yet. On top of the many activities offered such as the Volunteer Social, the Athlete Social, Games Shuttle Service, and a very special Final Ball there will be a T-shirt for every one who registers! Watch for your May issue of the Flame for more details!

Rules, new additions and updates summary: Approved by the NMSO Board of Directors – December 2, 2004
Call your local Coordinator for more details!

Archery 1. Shooters shoot north 2. Five Divisions of play.
Basketball Team 1. Sixth foul and 12 minute half – consistent with Nationals.
Dance 1. Dance practice mandatory. Organizational meeting eliminated.
2. Categories will always be Cha-Cha and Tango for Latin Ballroom.
Field 1. Allow preliminaries and finals for more than eight.
2. Allow six throws for less than eight competitors.
Racewalk 1. Racewalk meeting optional instead of mandatory.
2. 400M will be a competitive power walk event - not judged event
3. Eliminate the 1500M Exhibition Power Walk.
Racquetball 1. Athletes must provide USAR approved eye-wear.
Softball 1. A maximum of 5 out-of-state players allowed.
2. Men’s teams will be divided into two categories of play - Gold and Silver.
3. National rules regarding home plate, strike zone mat, pitchers box, runs per inning, home run rule, time limit and ASA bats.
Talent 1. Add wording to read: “Categories are Kitchen Band and Traditional Band”.
2. Talent Practice mandatory. Organizational meeting eliminated.
Volleyball 1. Add wording under Co-Ed: “Regular Co-ed Play will be utilized”.
2. If a co-ed team has only 5 players and 3 are men, allow teams to start a game and play with 2 men and 2 women on a team.
General Information 1. Add wording to say: “Results are preliminary until verified by NMSO Game Management”.
Sport Additions 1. Add Washers to Recreation Events. 2. Add Weight lifting as an exhibition event.
